IWLA, Michigan Division Recognized

February 22, 2002

Special Tribute To: Izaak Walton League, Michigan Division

LET IT BE KNOWN, That it is both a pleasure and a distinct privilege to
join in celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Michigan Division of the
Izaak Walton League.  Founded in 1922, this organization has indeed reached
a memorable milestone in its history and one that truly warrants special
recognition.  We wish to express our admiration and support for their
commitment to conservation in Michigan.

The Izaak Walton League of America is dedicated to protecting our soil,
air, woods, waters and wildlife.  Their strength lies in a grassroots,
common sense approach to solving local, regional and national conservation
issues.  President Calvin Coolidge commissioned the League to conduct the
first water pollution survey in the 1930's which resulted in the passage of
the nation's first Water Pollution Control Act.  Conservation education was
introduced by the League in the 1940's and remains a top priority today.
They continue to lead efforts for passage of good conservation legislation.

The League has had a presence in Michigan since shortly after it was
founded 80 years ago in Chicago, Illinois.  The Michigan Division has played
a major role in establishing our state's air, water, forest management, and
fisheries and wildlife standards.  Over the years, they have worked
diligently to protect and improve those standards.  On behalf of the many
people who have benefitted from their concern, involvement and leadership,
we thank the League for their wonderful contributions.

IN SPECIAL TRIBUTE, Therefore, This document is signed and dedicated to
commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Michigan Division of the Izaak
Walton League.  May the members all know of our high regard for this
exemplary organization and our best wishes for continued success in the
years ahead.
